Looking Ahead to the National Year of Reading
As the school year draws to a close, it’s the perfect moment to pause, reflect, and celebrate a renewed national focus on literacy. With the release of the Writing Framework (see my previous blog linked below) and the upcoming National Year of Reading in 2026, the message is clear: literacy matters for everyone.
For those of us working across SEND, inclusion, and adaptive teaching, this is a powerful moment. It reinforces what we’ve always known: literacy isn’t just a subject, it’s the foundation for thinking, connecting, creating, and thriving.
