Empowering Every Learner
Bridging Theory and Practice in Inclusive Education
Supporting SEND in Mainstream Classrooms
Practical, inclusive strategies to remove barriers to learning and support all learners to succeed.
By Dr Sarah Moseley & Dr Helen Ross
This course equips educators with practical, inclusive strategies to remove barriers to learning and support all learners to succeed. By the end of the course, participants will feel confident applying adaptive teaching and Universal Design for Learning to create accessible, high-expectation classrooms.
This session introduces a needs-led approach to inclusion, moving beyond labels to understand how learners experience barriers to learning. Participants explore adaptive teaching and Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and consider practical strategies that support access in everyday classroom practice.
This session focuses on the cognitive skills that underpin engagement, organisation, and independence. Participants develop an understanding of executive function and learn practical strategies to support focus, working memory, and self-regulation in everyday classroom practice.
This session explores how sensory and cognitive overload can prevent learning before it begins. Participants examine sensory processing differences and learn how to reduce unnecessary load through environmental adjustments, pacing, and inclusive instructional design.
This final session focuses on embedding inclusive practice into everyday planning. Participants learn how to use UDL principles to plan flexibly, deploy support strategically, and sustain adaptive teaching without lowering expectations.

What You'll Learn
You’ll learn how to move beyond diagnoses and develop a clear, needs-led understanding of learners. The course helps you recognise hidden barriers and focus on strengths, allowing you to plan more inclusively from the start.
See the Learner, Not the Label
You’ll explore how attention, working memory, and executive function affect learning and behaviour. Through practical strategies, you’ll learn how to reduce cognitive load, support organisation, and help learners become more independent over time.
Support Focus, Memory & Independence
You’ll gain a deeper understanding of sensory and processing needs and how learning environments can unintentionally block access. The course shows how small, intentional changes to instructions, pacing, and environments can make learning accessible without lowering expectations.
